The Benzie County Archives

Documents: Our archives include a wide range of manuscripts, books, diaries, ledgers, and other historical materials. Many of these documents are available for discovery and viewing through our Online Catalog.

Photo Archives: Thousands of images capturing life in Benzonia, Beulah, Honor, Frankfort, and surrounding communities. Most of our photos are available through our Online Catalog.

Maps & Atlases: Explore the past through hundreds of maps, plat books, and other large-format records. The collection includes early maps dating from the 1800’s, as well as more recent maps and aerial photographs.

Genealogical Records: We have hundreds of family files, obituaries, and local census records. We are actively adding to these records, including biographical histories about early Benzie settlers and more recent residents.

Institutional Records: Our archives contain a wide range of documents from local townships, schools, and civic organizations.

Research Library: We have a room dedicated to books and periodicals related to Benzie, Northern Michigan and Michigan history. Materials are available to visitors by appointment, with computers provided for accessing our Online Catalog and additional research websites.
