Volunteer with the Benzie Area Historical Society
Volunteering at BAHS
Make Benzie History and Volunteer!
Every day the Historical Society’s volunteers bring skills, life experience, energy and passion to supporting our mission and the work of our staff. They are the backbone and lifeblood of our success. Last year 56 volunteers contributed more than 10,100 hours of time and talent.
You can make history happen this summer!
If you are over 18 and are looking for an enriching and rewarding experience, then volunteering for the Historical Society at the Benzie Area Historical Museum or Drake School Museum may be for you.

Who volunteers at the Historical Society and Museums?
They are teachers, stay-at-home parents, students, hobbyists, retirees and more — and in 2021 volunteers donated over 10,100 hours to the Historical Society!
You don’t have to be an expert to be a volunteer, simply a desire to make a difference and have fun along the way. Training is provided for all positions.
What do volunteers do?
Some volunteers elect to put the skills used in their careers and professions to work while volunteering; others look to learn new skills or perform more routine tasks. It’s up to you!
Volunteers actively work to enhance our artifact collection, advance our historical research, and share their passion for Benzie County’s history with people like you. They support our important educational programming, helping BAHS achieve its mission to inspire future generations and leave a lasting legacy.
You can find them welcoming guests to our Museums, gardening, repairing an artifact, or contributing their time and talents to behind-the-scenes research, archival documentation, or administrative tasks.
