Volunteer with the Benzie Area Historical Society

Volunteering is a Wonderful Way to Support the BAHS

Volunteer Opportunities

Every day the Historical Society’s volunteers actively work to enhance our artifact collection, advance our historical research, and share their passion for Benzie County’s history with people like you.  They support our important educational programming, helping BAHS achieve its mission to inspire future generations and leave a lasting legacy.

You can find them engaging students with hands-on artifacts in their elementary classroom, sharing details from their personal interactions with historic figures such as Bruce Catton, or contributing their time and talents to behind-the-scenes research, archival documentation, or administrative tasks.

They are historians, teachers, stay-at-home parents, students, hobbyists, retirees and more—and in 2019 they donated over 8,200 hours to the Historical Society! You don’t have to be an expert to be a volunteer—if you are passionate about history and love talking with and helping others, we’d love to have you at the Benzie Area Historical Society.

As a volunteer you can:

  • Catalog museum objects, photos, and postcards into our computer-based catalog
  • Design and create exhibits
  • Perform small repairs to artifacts i.e., sewing repairs to fabrics, cleaning small motors/guns/leather items
  • Greet Museum and Drake School visitors during the summer
  • Research and write about local history/events/places/place names
  • Help with school groups visiting the Museum
  • Work with our Programs Committee to secure presenters and organize specific programs or events

Our volunteer’s time and talent are critical to the success of the Benzie Area Historical Museum!
