Words that Make Art: A National Poetry Month Workshop!
A special youth program provided by the Benzie Area Historical Museum & Research Center and the Benzonia Public Library.
Calling all young wordsmiths! April is National Poetry Month, and the library is turning into a creative studio for one afternoon only. Does your child love to doodle? Do they have big ideas and stories to tell? Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop where we’ll explore the magic of rhyme, rhythm, sound, color, and art.
What We’ll Do:
In just one hour, children will:
- Write: Learn simple, fun ways to craft their own poems (no experience needed!).
- Illustrate: Bring their words to life using a variety of art techniques.
- Create: Design unique pieces of “art-poetry” to take home.
The Details:
- Who: Elementary-aged school children.
- When: April 6, 2026, 1 pm
- Where: Benzonia Public Library, 891 Michigan Ave. Benzonia, MI 49616
- Cost: Completely FREE.
- Supplies: We provide everything—paper, pens, paints, and inspiration!
- The Takeaway: Every participant will head home with their finished poems and a special National Poetry Month mini poster to hang on their wall
