Dedication Ceremony – Public Invited

The Benzie Area Historical Museum will be hosting a Dedication Ceremony for the new Archibald Jones Historical Research Center on Saturday, June 6th, from 2 pm to 4 pm.

The event will take place under a large tent on our west lawn, and will feature brief presentations, music, and other festivities.  Guests of honor will include Dr. Stacy Leroy Daniels and his wife, Carol Yvonne Daniels, primary sponsors for the new Research Center.  A keynote address will be delivered by Lisa Craig Brisson, Executive Director of the Michigan Museums Association.

Film Premier and Guided Tours

Following the dedication ceremony, attendees will have an opportunity to attend the showing of our new “Archibald Jones & The Lowering of Crystal Lake” documentary film.  Using cutting edge technology, this 15-minute video brings the story of Archibald Jones to life, providing new perspectives on how one man’s vision changed the course of history in Benzie County.

In addition, attendees will be invited to experience our new Archibald Jones exhibit.  Explore the early history of Benzie County, beginning with the formation of Crystal Lake during the Ice Ages.  Learn more about the ambitious 1873 plan to connect Crystal Lake and other inland lakes to Lake Michigan with canals, and the lasting impacts of that effort.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to explore the new Research Library and Archives Room, where they will learn about how to access our extensive collection of books, photos, maps and other historical documents.

Please come and help us celebrate this major museum milestone!
