May 24, 2025- Laying of the Lilacs Ceremony

Benzonia Township Cemetery, 11 am

Along with honoring Civil War veterans, this year’s program, given by Historical Society curator Jane Purkis, will include a tribute to the Rev. Harlow S. Mills and his family.  Mr. Mills became the minister of the Benzonia Congregational Church in 1896 and served for twenty years.  Mills Cottage, the girls’ dormitory at the Benzonia Academy (now the Mills Community House) is named for him and his wife, Mary.

Following the program, Purkis will conduct a gravestone cleaning workshop.
