This video is also featured in an exhibit at the Archibald Jones Historical Research Center in the Benzie Area Historical Museum, located in Benzonia, Michigan. Opened in June 2026, the exhibit begins with the formation of Crystal Lake during the Ice Ages. Early maps and photographs trace the region’s transformation from its Indigenous origins to the development of new towns and industries. The exhibit also examines the ambitious 1873 plan to connect Crystal Lake and other inland lakes to Lake Michigan with canals and the lasting, unexpected impacts of that effort.
