For our March 2022 Academy Lecture, railroad and car ferry enthusiast Andy Bolander presents “Maritime Safety”.  This online lecture focuses on images from the collection of the Benzie Area Historical Society.  In his presentation, Andy shares a look at Benzie County lighthouses, Life Saving Stations and United States Coast Guard activities that ensured the safety of both people and property.

Andy is a volunteer and a lead researcher for the Benzie Area Historical Society.  He proudly proclaims himself to be “a nerd for all things Ann Arbor Railroad.”

About the Benzonia Academy Lecture Series:

The Benzonia Academy was established in 1863 by our community founders to afford all people, regardless of race or sex, the opportunity to receive a liberal education.  The Benzie Area Historical Society seeks to carry on the tradition of our community founders by offering this free series of online lectures on the second Thursday of each month.  Topics are varied and cover local, state, national and international history.

Beginning in April, our lectures will be offered at both The Mills Community House, virtually and recorded for later viewing.  Please join us.
